ROM Friday Night Live returns with hot fall lineup

#FNLROM returns for 6th season starting October 10, 2014

The ROM’s popular Friday Night Live series presented by Ford of Canada (#FNLROM), returns this fall for eight consecutive weeks of Toronto’s favourite party. #FNLROM opens on October 10, 2014 and runs every Friday until November 28, 2014 from 7pm to midnight. This adult-only event (19+) animates the Museum with Toronto’s hottest performers, artists, DJs, food, cocktails, and more.

The sixth season of #FNLROM offers even more entertainment and cultural experiences than ever before with themed nights inspired by Global Fashion, Cabinet of Curiosities, Heroes, Wildlife Photographer of the Year and more. Coming this fall are musical offerings from top Canadian talent including: The Darcys, Adrian X, Devin Cuddy Band, KC Roberts & the Live Revolution, Barbra Lica, Muhtadi and the World Drummers featuring Amara Kante, Shi Wisdom and Mustafa the Poet. Also appearing this season are Canadian visual artists, designers and theatrical icons including Sara Angelucci, Chinedu Ukabam, Jocelyn Tang, George Foster, The Second City and Historica Canada. 

New this season the ROM’s galleries are alive with MuseoNerd chats, Google Hangouts and the Caption This feature where ROM staff challenge partygoers to re-create their favourite galleries and make their own Museum labels. Plus, at every #FNLROM guests can check-out the Ford Lounge to experience innovative technology, creativity and culture.

October 10: Thanks Canada

Salute Canada’s home-grown culture with the ROM’s Brushing it in the Rough II exhibition, music from The Icicles, Ron Hawkins & The Do Good Assassins, Grady Kelneck; live sketch comedy from The Second City and Great Canadian Heritage Minutes from Historica Canada.

October 17:  Africa Alive

Join the launch of ROM’s Of Africa project with a preview of the new Maps, Borders & Mobility in Africa exhibition. Enjoy djembe beats from Muhtadi & the World Drummers featuring Amara Kante, music from  Adrian X and Shi Wisdom, kalimba rhythms from Njacko Backo, and Afrixcan DJ beats from Davee Ki and Kwame Young spoken word from Mustafa The Poet and an interactive video installation featuring a virtual fashion collection from Nigerian Canadian designer Chinedu Ukabam.

October 24: Fashion Global

A fashion extravaganza with the ROM’s Madagascar Textiles collection and Fashion Follows Form: Designs for Sitting and Cairo Under Wraps: Early Islamic Textiles exhibitions and more. Music from The Darcys, Pick Brothers, U of T Jazz, Barbra Lica, and DJ Feel Good Smalls. Plus couture fashion illustration from International fashion illustrator and designer, Jocelyn Tang.

October 31: Boo!

Celebrate Halloween with a peek inside the ROM’s Cabinet of Curiosities featuring the weird, wild and wacky from our collections. Plus, mummy-making, scavenger hunts, a Zombie walk, and music from Devin Cuddy Band, Rival Boys and Barry Prophet acoustic installation “Netherworldly Soundings”, and a tribute to Daft Punk with DJ Half Punk’d. Test your taste buds with wild eats including edible bugs.

November 7: Dinos, Dodos and Disco: Extinction

Explore extinction in the natural and cultural worlds with a look at the ROM’s exhibition on Empty Skies:The Passenger Pigeon Legacy. Disco the night away with music from KC Roberts & the Live Revolution, Julian Taylor Band, and DJs Cozmic Cat & Denise Benson, and A Digital Needle.  Plus, an art installation from Sara Angelucci. 

November 14: Heroes

See super heroes in the house all night long with performances by Wordburglar, Amity Beach, Christian Jeffries, DJ Conor Cutz and more. Plus, celebrate local heroes with Historica Canada’s Great Canadian Heroes Heritage Minutes. International scholar Dr Kutalmus Gorkey talks about the incredible excavations at Zeugma, founded by ancient hero Alexander the Great and his army.

November 21: Get Wild

Get a sneak peek of this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition and take a walk on the wild side with ROM Biodiversity Researchers. Plus, performances from the Adam Baldwin Band, The Honey Runners and MAZ, DJs Sean Caff and D-Smooth.

November 28: Celestial Blast

The blow-out finale evening of #FNLROM showcases all that shines from the ROM’s Earth & Space collections alongside performances from Saidah Baba Talibah, Kandle & The Krooks, Cyclic Dream, Andria Simone and DJs Medley and Brank-Oh!. Plus, a live FNL light art showcased on gallery walls.
