Centennial Ball Celebrates Museum’s 100th Anniversary
Philanthropic community raises over $700,000 net in support of the ROM

November 10, 2014, Toronto, ON—The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) welcomed more than 600 guests for a stunning once-in-a-lifetime fundraising event in honour of the ROM’s Centennial on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Bonnie Brooks, Chair of the ROM Board of Trustees, and Senator Nicole Eaton co-chaired a spectacular white-tie affair that raised over $700,000 net in support of the Love the ROM Centennial Campaign.

“Philanthropy has been a ROM tradition and community value since the Museum’s inception in 1914,” said Dianne Lister, President & CEO, ROM Governors. “We are immensely grateful for the longstanding generosity and commitment of our donors, patrons, sponsors and volunteers, whose support is enabling the ROM to continue evolving as a museum for the 21st century.

Presented by CIBC, the ROM’s Centennial Partner, the memorable event brought together the ROM’s generous philanthropic community of donors, patrons and sponsors for an Opening Ceremonies reception sponsored by Mantella Venture Partners and a series of intimate dinners in 11 galleries throughout the Museum followed by dancing in Samuel Hall  Currelly Gallery.  Guests dazzled in ball gowns and tails and were greeted by a Michael Lee-Chin Crystal lit up with artistic projections by Moment Factory.

All proceeds from the ROM Centennial Ball will support the Love the ROM Centennial Campaign, which aims to raise $15 million by June 2015 and realize two remarkable Centennial legacies. The Welcome Project will enhance the ROM’s lobby and create a lively civic green space for the city on the Museum’s doorstep with an outdoor performance space and beautiful biodiversity gardens. The Dawn of Life on Earth Gallery will tell the fascinating story of how life began and evolved on our planet in an immersive environment that will send visitors on a journey to the depths of the ancient seas.
