Live Sheep at the ROM to launch Canadian Wool Week as part of
HRH The Prince of Wales’s Campaign for Wool

An installation of live sheep and a knitting circle in the Royal Ontario Museum’s (ROM) Plaza will play centre-stage to the 2015 Launch of Canadian Wool Week part of The Prince of Wales’s Campaign for Wool on Friday, September 18 at 10:00 AM. Wool Chair and Canadian design icon Kimberly Newport-Mimran will be joined by Susan Horvath, President & CEO of ROM Governors, Campaign Retail Partners and Canada’s Wool/Sheep Industry for the official “yarn cutting” launching a series of activities in Toronto and Montreal focused on educating Canadians about the many properties of wool and the local economies it supports.

The sheep installation will be supplemented by a Wonders of Wool activation inside the ROM highlighting the science behind this natural fiber and explaining the Wool Industry’s rich heritage in Canada as well as a children’s play area featuring FELTRO magnetic wool tiles (think Wool Lego). These activities are part of the ROM’s Wild Science Big Weekend, running from Saturday, September 19 to Sunday, September 20. This special weekend is jam-packed with activities for visitors of all ages. ROM scientists and curators will be on-hand facilitating hands-on activities and live experiments that explore the science of our natural world including atoms, fossils, meteorites, and more.

The Launch is a partnership between The Campaign for Wool, Prince’s Charities Canada and The Royal Ontario Museum.  Interviews will be available with Kimberly Newport-Mimran, Susan Horvath, President & CEO of ROM Governors, Alexandra Weston, Director of Brand Strategy at Holt Renfrew, Matthew Rowe, Campaign for Wool spokesman, John Muscat, President & Co-Founder of LINE and representatives from Canada’s Wool and Sheep Industry.  Interview requests should be arranged in advance to ensure proper availability.

About The Campaign For Wool
The Campaign for Wool is a global endeavour initiated by its patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the unique, natural and sustainable benefits offered by wool. Encouraging collaboration between an international community of woolgrowers, major fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, artisans and interior designers, the Campaign has been instrumental in educating consumers about the versatility of wool.

Since its launch in 2010, The Campaign for Wool has created new demand for wool on an international scale.  The Campaign was launched in Canada by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall during their 2014 visit to Canada. This is the second Canadian Wool Week.
