Paris Fashions, Made in Lyons: Designers’ Role in the 18th Century French Silk Industry
Dr. Miller’s research continued her in-depth investigation of designers’ role and impact on the silk industry of 18th century Lyons by comparing silks in the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum with surviving dated designs and sample books which are found in archives and museums in Europe and America, with an aim of demonstrating the role and influence that designers had in the Lyonnaise silk industry throughout the 18th century.

At the time of her fellowship, Dr. Miller was a Lecturer in the History of Textiles and Dress at the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. Currently, she is a Professor of Dress and Textile History at the University of Glasgow and Senior Curator of Textiles and Dress from before 1800 within the Furniture, Textiles and Fashion Department at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
