Lectures examine the nation’s history, cuisine and holiday traditions
The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) examines all things Canadian this fall with a variety of lectures and programs. Hear John Ralston Saul’s views on what defines Canada as a nation, enjoy traditional Canadian holiday stories and songs or learn about and sample Canadian sweet treats. A Fair Country: Telling Truths about Canada with John Ralston Saul

Canada is defined by “peace, order and good government,” but is that truly Canada’s nature? Thinker John Ralston Saul asks this and other thought provoking questions in his talk on what defines Canada. There will be a book signing following the talk.
Canadian Sweet Treats: Food Experts Debate the Classics
Sunday, December 13, 2009, 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Admission $32
The butter tart, carrot pudding and fruitcake all have a significant presence in Canada’s culinary history. Listen and interact with a panel of food experts who will discuss these and other sweet Canadian delights. Enjoy a sampling of different sweet treats, and vote on your favourite!
