Online Collections

About this project

The ROM's Online Collection opens the Museum to everyone, anywhere in the world.

The digitization of ROM's collections continues to be a priority for the Museum and aims to provide broad access to keep our audiences connected. Digitized objects are made available through e-Museum, and have a broad and universal reach, touching on all aspects of art, culture and nature and reaching over 176 countries around the world. Used by a range of scholars, educational institutions and communities, the online collection is a springboard for discovery that supports distance learning and global research.

With the generous support from the Government of Canada, in 2022, ROM was able to hire a digitization photographer and a project coordinator dedicated solely to this digitization initiative. With this staff in place, 6,274 objects related to Canadian and Indigenous heritage and Canadian natural history were shot with 14,293 views. These objects are available via ROM's online collection; in addition, full metadata in both English and French is available here.

ROM is grateful for this support that has allowed it to accelerate its efforts to digitize the collection and provide public access to its collections for Canadians and international audiences.

The ROM is in the process of digitizing its collection, and images on the website are being updated regularly. We have chosen to post all available images until new photography becomes available. Some of the images are not suitable for publication and are not available as a high resolution image file.
