TORONTO, August 6, 2020 – Josh Basseches, Director & CEO of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), announced today the appointment of Nadim Kara as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). In this role, Kara will be responsible for the Human Resource functions and related activities.
“With a wealth of experience that spans the public sector, museum, and private sector, Nadim has built a reputation for fostering work environments that are inclusive and welcoming, and designing programs that create a culture of innovation and high engagement,” says Basseches. “Nadim’s unique combination of skills and experience make him an ideal fit for the ROM.”
In this position, Kara will oversee Human Resources’ departmental operations including recruitment, labour/employee relations, health and safety, pensions and benefit programs, performance management, learning and development, employee engagement, and wellness.
“I’m genuinely passionate about joining the ROM and look forward to working alongside the Museum’s talented senior leadership team and staff to drive a pluralistic, inclusive human resources strategy towards a vital and relevant vision and mission,” says Kara. “My enthusiasm stems from a deep-rooted respect for the work the ROM does to engage with diverse communities and audiences in Canada and around the world as a top-tier cultural institution and one of the world’s foremost 21st century museums.”
Most recently, Kara served as Chief Human Resources Officer at Toronto-based Teranet, which was named Top Employer for the GTA three years in a row during his tenure. He has also held HR leadership roles at the legal research company Lexisnexis, and prior that, at Science North, Sudbury, a position that provided him with considerable museum-related experience.
Kara will assume the role on August 17, 2020, upon the retirement of Dan Sibley. During his tenure as CHRO, Sibley played a critical role in aligning the ROM’s Human Resources function with the organization’s overall strategic direction and priorities.
