Kiron will share activities, easy at-home crafts, behind the scenes anecdotes and fun facts—all connected to the ROM collections.
This time on the ROMKids Show we celebrate what would have been the final week our summer camp with a favourite tradition! To get started, we’re going to make a special afternoon treat—ice cream! Then we’ll unravel the wonderous 78-year history of Summer Club—a story of a fantastic rivalry, a secret message hidden in a mural, and two women that changed the Museum forever!
MATERIALS:
- 1 large sealable bag
- 1 small sealable bag
- ½ cup of half and half milk
- ¼ teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- ½ cup of salt
- 4 cups of ice
- Towel
- Spoon
1. Pour your half and half milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small sealable bag and seal tight. Pour your salt and ice into the large sealable bag. Place your small bag into the large one, and seal tight.
2. Protect your hands from the cold, and wrap a towel around your bag and shake vigorously for 5-7 minutes. If you’re inside in a controlled environment, your mixture will turn into ice cream quicker. If you’re outside, it may take longer, especially if it’s hot out!
After 5-7 minutes, or once solid, grab a spoon and enjoy your delicious ice cream—you’ve earned it!
As the ROMKids Coordinator & Camp Director, Kiron is the public face of the Royal Ontario Museum’s family and children’s programs. Kiron started volunteering at the ROM at age 14 and has never looked back. Though he majored in history at York University, Kiron also considers his early years as a ROMKids camper to be a highly formative part of his education. Now, he strives to provide engaging and educational kids’ programming so that future generations can look back on their ROM experiences as fondly as he has.
