Kiron will share activities, easy at-home crafts, behind the scenes anecdotes and fun facts—all connected to the ROM collections.
This time on the ROMKids Show we learn about disability, service dogs, and dinosaurs! Palaeontologist Jade Simon and her service dog Basil join us to talk about the need for accessibility, why representation matters, and the ways that Basil helps Jade in day-today-day life and work. Then we’ll do a flash round on dinosaur questions, and make invisible relief art!
MATERIALS:
- paper
- white crayon
- water colour paint
- brush
1. Use your white crayon to draw a picture. I drew a dinosaur!
2. Then, using any colour water colour paint, brush over your picture. The wax of the crayon resists the water of the paint. So the paper turns a colour, allowing the white crayon to stand out. Your art, once hidden against the white page, appears with the paint over top!
As the ROMKids Coordinator & Camp Director, Kiron is the public face of the Royal Ontario Museum’s family and children’s programs. Kiron started volunteering at the ROM at age 14 and has never looked back. Though he majored in history at York University, Kiron also considers his early years as a ROMKids camper to be a highly formative part of his education. Now, he strives to provide engaging and educational kids’ programming so that future generations can look back on their ROM experiences as fondly as he has.
