Explore the direct and indirect effects of climate on human health in a panel discussion led by Soren Brothers, Allan and Helaine Shiff Curator of Climate Change. Join Brothers and representatives of the global health community as they consider how climate change is having, and will continue to have, an impact on local and global populations. From increased incidence of respiratory complications from forest fires in Canada’s wild spaces, to the spread of new diseases via invasive species, hear from professionals whose work supports individuals and communities struggling to survive and thrive in Earth’s changing climate.

Faith Toran

Faith Toran is currently serving as a Communication Specialist with the Humanitarian Action on Climate and Environment (HACE) Team of Doctors without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF Canada)’s, Faith channels her energies into producing and showcasing compelling communication materials that spotlight MSF's expertise in Climate, Environment, and Health (CEH). Her role centers on facilitating knowledge exchange and scaling sustainable solutions to address pressing global challenges. She is actively engaged in operational research at MSF, particularly focusing on Risk Communications and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Operational Response. 

Over the past 13 years, Faith has traversed diverse landscapes, contributing expertise in Communication for Development (C4D) and Project Management across the US, Burkina Faso, France, India, and Guinea. Her keen understanding of C4D underscores her commitment to fostering community-centric solutions, particularly aimed at enhancing the well-being of children and women, especially the marginalized, in both emergency and developmental contexts. Notable endeavors include a sustainable development field mission in Burkina Faso with The United States Peace Corps, an impact study on participatory frameworks within waste management programs in rural India, and communication management for the International Association for National Youth Service in France. 

Dr. Mili Roy

Dr. Mili Roy is a Canadian physician deeply connected to the environment. After decades working in professional healthcare – while supporting environmental organizations and following science and sustainability issues - the two different worlds of healthcare and the environment in her life naturally converged. Watching the climate crisis become the single greatest human health crisis of our time, Mili realized that where she could make a difference was by focusing on planetary health. In 2021, Mili completed Virtual Climate Reality Leadership Corps training and now serves as Ontario regional chair for the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and co-chair for the Ontario Climate Emergency Campaign, an environmental democracy movement she's supported and worked on since its inception. Today, as a Climate Reality Leader, Mili focuses on educating audiences on the intersections of climate and health, through lectures, public speaking, writing, consulting, and conducting interviews. Mili is especially interested in advocating for better government climate policy and inspiring people to use their democratic voice for climate action by connecting environmental impacts to our everyday lives and concerns, whether that be the cost of living, housing, jobs, or food security, among others.
