C5 Restaurant Makes Fodor’s Worldwide ‘Hot List’

Please note: c5 is now closed to the public.

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), is pleased to announce that C5 (Crystal Five) Restaurant Lounge is inscribed on Fodor’s Hot List of new restaurants and hotels around the world. The Hot List is a weekly running sheet of top international picks for dining and accommodations opened within the last six months. It is compiled with submissions from journalists in over 300 worldwide destinations covered by the guidebooks. Among other commendations, the article states that “you shouldn't miss dining at C5, the starkly designed, unapologetically modernist restaurant on the addition's fifth floor.”

“Only five months into its life, C5 is recognized in an authoritative global forum for its culinary excellence and style,” said William Thorsell, Director and CEO of the ROM. “This is a remarkable tribute to our Toronto-bred chefs and staff, and to Restaurant Associates who are adding a spark of Manhattan to Toronto's social scene.”

“In developing menus for C5, I take inspiration from the Museum’s magnificent artifacts and create imaginative and modern dishes that stand alone as edible exhibits,” said Ted Corrado, Chef de Cuisine at C5. “I am very grateful for the support of William Thorsell, the ROM and Restaurant Associates for this opportunity to explore food as art.”

C5 Restaurant Lounge is a stunning 120-seat venue located at the pinnacle (Level 5) of the new Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. A unique dining destination, C5 provides superlative gastronomic experiences in a sophisticated environment. Accessible from Bloor Street through its own dedicated entrance, the dining room at C5 is open daily for à la carte lunch, on Sundays for brunch and from Thursday to Saturday for à la carte dinner service. The lounge at C5 is the most fashionable location in the city to unwind. Soft leather seating and an original glass art installation set the mood for intimate social gatherings and private parties. Innovative cocktails served in signature C5 barware stylishly complement small seasonal plates.

Chef de Cuisine Ted Corrado brings ten years of culinary experience to the ROM, after working as Sous Chef and Executive Chef in some of Toronto’s most exclusive restaurants including Rain and Luce. Most recently he worked and trained under renowned Executive Chef Lorenzo Loseto at George Restaurant. Inspired by Toronto as well as his international travels, Corrado creates a menu that merges local and artisanal ingredients with the textures and flavours of our city’s diverse cultural fabric.

Both C5 and the family dining venue, Food Studio, first opened in mid-June and have since received much critical praise from reviewers across Canada. Joanne Kates from the Globe and Mail entitled her C5 review “Dinner dazzles in the ROM Crystal” and went on to state, “A spectacular view south and west lays out the CN and lesser towers against the genteel backdrop of the University of Toronto's Gothic spires.” She described Corrado’s cuisine as “close to dangerous divinity” and “a stroke of culinary cleverness.” James Chatto of Toronto Life magazine declared that “Corrado’s food is very modern, meticulous and technically proficient. It’s also delicious.” He went on to assert that “the restaurant is an asset to the city.” In addition to that, this month Post City magazines have placed Corrado among other culinary elite on their list of the top ten hottest young Toronto chefs.
