The Nature of Diamonds and Mysteries of Ancient Ukraine: The Remarkable Trypilian Culture (5400–2700 BC) both close at the ROM on March 22
All stunning and intriguing things must come to an end, and Sunday, March 22, 2009 is the final day for visitors to take in two feature exhibitions at the ROM.
The Nature of Diamonds, presented by De Beers Canada, is the most wide-ranging exhibition ever developed on the allure of diamonds as it tells the multi-layered story of this most extraordinary material. On display in the Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall, located on Level B2 in the ROM’s Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, the exhibition explores humankind’s ongoing fascination with the diamond, providing an in-depth examination of it as a natural substance, digging into its geologic origins, how it is mined, its cultural significance in art, literature, and ornamentation, and its numerous uses in modern science and technology. The ROM is the sole Canadian venue to host the exhibition during its exclusive North American tour.
The ROM-organized Mysteries of Ancient Ukraine: The Remarkable Trypilian Culture (5400 - 2700 BC), presented by Northland Power, is the world’s first large-scale exhibition uncovering the secrets of this ancient society which existed in present day Ukraine 7,000 – 5,000 years ago. On display in the Museum’s 3rd floor Centre Block, the mystery of this compelling and sophisticated culture, known for creating the largest settlements anywhere in the world at the time, before inexplicably disappearing, is illuminated through approximately 300 artifacts. Many of these objects have never before seen in North America.
