Mr. Al Zaibak is President and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Development and Marketing Corporation (CDM) and CDM Information Inc., companies involved in the development, financing, ownership and management of specialized information technology services. He was the principal private-sector architect and co-founder and director of Teranet Inc., which built and manages one of the world’s most advanced land registries, Ontario’s Electronic Land Registration System.
“It is an honour for me to join a cultural institution that is as significant to this city, province and country as the Royal Ontario Museum,” said Mr. Al Zaibak. “Having had the privilege of co-sponsoring a major ROM exhibition in 2009, I was very impressed by the Museum’s talented team of professionals and I look forward to working closely with the ROM’s leadership, Trustees and Governors to advance the Museum’s vision, goals and objectives.”
Mr. Al Zaibak co-chaired a ROM advisory panel with Tony Gagliano and Jonas Prince in connection with the highly successful Dead Sea Scrolls: Words that Changed the World exhibition and related programming. He was a cabinet member of the Trinity College Endowment Campaign, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation. He has served on the Board of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and as Chairman of its International Strategy Advisory Committee.
Mr. Al Zaibak is a founding luminary and a member of the Board of Directors of Luminato, and is a member of the Board of Governors of Ryerson University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Toronto Community Foundation (TCF), an organization that connects philanthropy with community needs and opportunities. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Mosaic Institute, a ‘think and do’ tank that collaborates with Canada’s ethnocultural communities to promote peace and reduce conflict around the world – starting at home. Mr. Al Zaibak also serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Centre for Diversity (CCD).
A graduate of Harvard School of Business Administration, Mr. Al Zaibak also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications and Electro-Physics, Faculty of Engineering from Alexandria University in Egypt. He was a Member of the Executive Committee of the Harvard Business School Club of Toronto and a Chairman of its Life-Long Learning Committee.
The ROM is an agency of the Government of Ontario. The Board of Trustees is the governing authority for the Museum, responsible for its policies, its operational continuity and holds in trust the collections and other assets of the Museum for the people of Ontario. The provincial government makes appointments through the Lieutenant Governor in Council. Trustees are volunteers, dedicated to public service and the ROM’s well-being and long-term stability.
