Space Shuttle Endeavour Crew Speaks to Young Patrons’ Circle Members
Canadian astronaut Julie Payette and NASA crewmates of the Space Shuttle Endeavour will speak to Young Patrons’ Circle (YPC) members and guests as part of the YPC Lunch with Leaders series at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) on November 5, 2009.
The YPC Lunch with Leaders series provides the next generation of leaders and philanthropists with an exclusive and inspirational opportunity to meet outstanding leaders in the community. “We are delighted to speak to this passionate group of young philanthropists at the ROM,” said Julie Payette. “We hope to inspire a renewed sense of appreciation for the world we inhabit and a commitment to protect our environment.”
“YPC's Lunch with Leaders series provides our members with the opportunity to interact with some of Canada's most inspirational leaders in an intimate setting,” said Diana Arajs, YPC Co-Chair. “The next generation of philanthropic, business and political leaders will be present at this event and we are thrilled to offer them the opportunity to meet and learn from Canadian Astronaut Julie Payette and the NASA crew."
In July 2009, the Space Shuttle Endeavour crew docked at the International Space Station for a 16-day mission involving complex robotics operations and five spacewalks, while travelling 10.5 million kilometers in space and completing 248 orbits around the Earth. Drops of water taken into space from the Great Lakes and the oceans surrounding Canada will be showcased at the event as a symbol of the Earth’s natural beauty and fragility. The samples will later be on display in the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity at the ROM to serve as a reminder to protect the great Canadian ecosystem.
An intimate group of patrons and guests will learn about the historic Mission STS-127 from Aerospace industry leaders, view a NASA video of Mission highlights, and enjoy a special lunch prepared by c5 Restaurant Lounge. The event runs from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the RBC Foundation Glass Room via the main entrance to the Michael Lee-Crystal. Tickets are $60 each and must be purchased in advance by visiting www.rom.on.ca.
Proceeds support ROM education and programming, artifact acquisition and care, gallery and exhibition development and international curatorial research. The ROM is the largest field research museum in Canada with curatorial and research staff in more than 30 countries around the globe
