PROM V: Noir

ROM’s Young Patrons’ Circle hosts 5th Annual Fundraiser on March 27, 2010

The Young Patrons’ Circle (YPC) at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) invites you to a thrilling night of dark glamour and cinematic fantasy during PROM V: Noir, the YPC’s fifth annual fundraiser, taking place Saturday, March 27, 2010. Supported by Kinross Gold Corporation and hosted by MTV’s Jessi Cruickshank and Dan Levy, PROM V: Noir invites hundreds of YPC members and guests for a sensational step back into old Hollywood, recreating the drama of a dazzling Golden Age film première - with a contemporary twist.

PROM V: Noir will channel our guests’ inner Bogart or Bacall,” says Karen Papazian, PROM Committee co-chair. “From the moment they’re greeted by photographers as they arrive on our chic black carpet to the swinging sounds of our live Big Band, PROM-goers will be treated like Hollywood royalty.”

The evening begins as guests gather under the ROM’s beautiful art deco Rotunda dome. As darkness falls revellers can investigate tempting diversions in hidden corners or sink back into sleek lounges in the Museum’s shadows. Stars and starlets preferring to strut their stuff can shimmy on a fierce dance floor to the sounds of DJ Fawn Big Canoe, DJ Johnny Strychnine, DJ Odario and Som Bomb Dj. At 9:30 pm, The Advocats Big Band takes the stage and a live swing dance performance by Bees’ Knees Dance will get everyone’s toes tapping.

VIP tickets include exclusive access beginning at 8:00 pm to the Director’s Cocktail – a sultry supper club experience featuring a decadent tasting menu and bar as well as jazz performances by renowned vocalist Adi Braun with pianist Jordan Klapman. VIPs also enjoy a private viewing of the new Bat Cave. The star treatment continues with private Green Room bar and dessert access throughout the PROM party.

Inspired by the Museum’s captivating collection of winged creatures from the newly re-vamped Bat Cave, the evening’s PROM V: Noir theme is dark glamour. All guests are encouraged to embrace vintage Hollywood, black feathered fancy or theatrical cocktail in their dress.

VIP tickets are $275 each for YPC member, $295 for non-members, and include exclusive access beginning at 8:00 pm. PROM Party tickets (doors open 9:00 pm) are $125 each for YPC members, $150 for non-members. To learn more about PROM V: Noir or to purchase tickets, visit www.rom.on.ca/prom. Welcoming more than 750 guests each year, PROM raises upwards of $50,000 annually for the ROM. Proceeds support Museum education and programming, gallery and exhibition development, artifact acquisition and care, and international curatorial research. Also benefitting is the ROM School Visits Bursary Program, which offers students from various disadvantaged communities within the Toronto District School Board the opportunity to visit the Museum and participate in an educational program free of charge. Students also enjoy access to the Museum’s 30,000 square-foot Learning Centre that is used for workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on creative experiences.

“The Young Patrons’ Circle at the ROM is Canada’s first philanthropic program of its kind,” said Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, President and Executive Director, ROM Governors. “YPC membership provides young professionals with exclusive access to the Museum as well as a variety of world-class cultural and social functions. PROM is not only one of Toronto’s glitziest events but the proceeds also go to support the Museum and the important work we do in the community.”

Launched in November 2005, the Young Patrons’ Circle provides unique access to the ROM and the opportunity to meet other young professionals from diverse career, social and business circles—all sharing in their enthusiasm for the ROM. Currently, there are over 300 YPC members. Most members are in their 30s, but eligibility runs the range of 19 - 44 years. A single membership costs $600 for 12 months of exceptional value, while a dual gift of membership is $1,000 (partial tax receipt included for both gift levels).

YPC membership offers a host of privileges, including free access to all YPC events, several social events each year, discounted access to special ticketed nights, free admission to the Museum throughout the year and special previews for galleries and exhibitions. Those joining YPC before PROM V: Noir will receive special member pricing. For more information about the ROM’s Young Patrons’ Circle visit www.rom.on.ca/members/ypc or call 416.586.8003.
