Break Out the Dancing Shoes – #FNLROM Is Back!
After a successful pilot season that welcomed over 21,000 visitors, The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is pleased to announce the highly anticipated return of ROM Friday Night Live. The most unique social destination in the city is back for just eight weeks, every Friday night from October 12, 2012 until November 30, 2012. This adult only (19+) event takes place from 7pm to midnight (last call at 11 pm) with a $10 cover charge.
#FNLROM kicks off October 12 with a celebration of the Harvest. Ring in the season with Toronto based craft beer and harvest foods in the ROM’s Tasting Room, featuring Mill Street, Steam Whistle, Amsterdam, Great Lakes, Kensington and Black Oak breweries; be part of the action as #FNLROM veteran Fidel Gastro films his new Travel and Escape reality show, Rebel Without a Kitchen; get a sneak peek at the Planet in Focus 13th annual Film Festival screenings; enjoy the new Glass Lounge and performance by local cabaret artist, Christian Jeffries; explore the Museum’s galleries as we investigate the science of beer making and beer culture throughout history; and welcome back FNLROM with DJ’s TIGERBLOOD and Simon Jain on the main stage.
“Following a highly successful trial this past spring, the ROM is pleased to present the second season of ROM Friday Night Live,” says Janet Carding, Director and CEO, Royal Ontario Museum. “We’ve seen other museums around the world successfully create a special social destination for young adults, and the ROM is proud to be the Museum in Toronto to pilot these experiences in our city. Based on the great feedback we received by surveying our visitors, this fall’s FNLROM promises to be bigger and better – providing new and exciting ways for our guests to experience even more of the ROM.”
New this season, additional galleries will be transformed into gathering spaces with great food, drinks and entertainment, including acoustic jazz sounds in the coffee bar in the second floor Teck Suite of Galleries: Earth’s Treasures and a lounge featuring incredible singers in the RBC Glass Room on the fourth floor.
In the true spirit of #FNLROM, visitors will indulge in a moveable feast of food and drink throughout the ROM’s galleries. Pop-up bars around the Museum will feature local and international artisanal wines, beer and FNL cocktails. Returning favourites Fidel Gastro, JK Fries, the Waffle Bar and c5 will be back. New this season on select Fridays, FNL foodies will enjoy the new flavours of Neptune Oysters, Rock Lobster Food Co., LPK’s Culinary Groove, Gourmet Beverage Co., Curbside Bliss, Gourmet Gringos, and Hawker Bar. All food and drink items start at just $5 each.
ElectriCITY Events is back to set the scene with the sounds of the city’s hottest DJs every week. Mark your calendar for every Friday and don’t miss Toronto’s own DJ Lokei, Jed Harper, Gray Moonen, KTWC, EllaD, MEMBERSONLY, and more.
Each week is a fresh new event with themed programming. Chose your favourite or come out for all eight and don’t miss a thing! Look forward to Friday nights with a focus on War and Peace, BIG fashion, Canadian Classics, Light, and more. Enjoy live performances, art installations, and late night Museum talks by local artists, collectives, designers and curators including The Orpheus Choir of Toronto performing Larry Nickel’s original work Requiem for Peace, renowned African hip hop artist Emmanuel Jal, social enterprise Me to We, UofT’s Faculty of Music Jazz Program, jazz star Julie Michels and guitarist Kevin Barrett, Canadian Idol winner Beyond the Mountain, and more.
