(March 10, 2015) – The Royal Ontario Museum’s (ROM) engagement of Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY), on display in the Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall, comes to a close on Sunday, March 22, 2015.

The exhibition, enjoying a second consecutive Canadian debut at the ROM, features a remarkable display of 100 of the world’s best wildlife photographs, directly from the prestigious UK exhibition which is now in its 50th year. Based on a competition supported by a partnership between the BBC and the Natural History Museum in London, WPY is renowned for its powerful and inspiring nature photographs from adults and youth, and amateur and professional photographers. Youth categories are acknowledged by ages ranging from 10 years and under and up to 17 years old, while adult categories include various species (plants and fungi, amphibians and reptiles, birds), and artistic styles (black and white, natural design). Over 40,000 international entries were judged by the WPY panel, and the exhibition tours 60 cities around the world.

At the ROM, WPY includes several features exclusive to the Toronto engagement, such as digital and tactile information kiosks and a Nature Reserve. The Nature Reserve brings visitors up close to ROM curatorial work, with videos and photos of recent ROM field research, and specimens from the Museum’s Natural History collections. The Nature Reserve also provides visitors with personalized wildlife photo adventures with selfie fun, ideal for sharing on social media!

WPY is a time-ticketed exhibition, and all tickets include a half-hour window to start a visit. WPY admission includes entry to the rest of the Museum, including our upcoming March Break activities.  Extended ROM March Break evening hours and discounted admission take place on Saturday March 14 to Saturday March 21, from 4:30 to 8:30 pm.
