ROMBus: Crawford Lake: A Window into the Earth's Past

Crawford Lake: A Window into the Earth's Past
Thursday, September 5, 2024, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Crawford Lake in Milton, Ontario is one of the most unique bodies of water in the world, opening a rare and comprehensive window into Earth’s geologic past and a chronicle of human impact on the planet. Through a collection of regular core samples taken from the bottom of this deep lake, a team of experts – including ROM curators Soren Brothers and Deborah Metsger – has been studying the record of environmental shifts in time shown in the core sediments.

Join us for a special day trip to the lake and its environs with ROM botanist and “Team Crawford” member, Deborah Metsger. Explore the shoreline and learn about the incredible record the lake has revealed. Our day also includes a tour of local reconstructed longhouses as we learn more about the Indigenous history of the area.

Lunch is a short trip away in nearby Campbellville at Risposta Ristorante, which offers authentic Italian and Mediterranean cuisine.

Note: This itinerary includes some walking.  Please wear comfortable shoes.

Please notify the Programs Department at 416.586.5797 at least three weeks in advance of the trip date of any special dietary needs or mobility issues.
