ROMBus: Meet the “Muck Growers” of the Holland Marsh

Meet the “Muck Growers” of the Holland Marsh
Saturday, October 5, 2024, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm

Come with us to the extraordinary Holland Marsh and experience the landscape of the Muck Growers. An incredible ecosystem, the Holland Marsh consists of over 21,000 acres of what was once all marshland, but today contains productive agricultural land that is a critical source of Ontario’s fresh produce. Our excursion takes us into the heart of the Marsh, where we learn more about the land itself and the unique farming community that resides there.

We visit with experienced locals and farmers and learn about the fields, equipment, and special methods used, as they show us how crops are grown, harvested, and stored. Nestled amongst expanding urban centres, we discover how important this growing region is, and how much of the food on our table comes from this area – one of the most successful growing areas in the country.

Our day includes a hearty lunch at the Swiss Chalet in nearby East Gwillimbury.

Note: This itinerary includes some walking.  Please wear comfortable shoes.

Please notify the Programs Department at 416.586.5797 at least three weeks in advance of the trip date of any special dietary needs or mobility issues.
