About

Back by popular demand, our classic murder mystery scavenger hunt returns:

There has been a mysterious murder, and the museum's collections hold the key. As you gather clues, you’ll begin to piece together a tale of greed, lust, pride, and revenge. Working in teams, sleuths travel through the museum's galleries solving whodunnit, where, and with what.

Will your team solve the mystery before the clock runs out?

How to Prepare

What to Bring:
At least one player per team must bring a fully charged phone with the Goosechase app downloaded, but the more the merrier! Learn how to download the Goosechase app here.
You will receive the game code in a preparation e-mail, the day before your event. Upon your arrival at the museum, your on-site hosts will provide further instructions.

If you have a ROM Membership and have bought a discounted scavenger hunt ticket using the ROM Membership code, you must bring your ROM membership with you on the day of the hunt. You will use this, instead of a group pin, to access the museum and play the game.

What to Not Bring:
The museum does not allow food or drink, but a discreet water bottle is accepted. There is a cafe on the main floor and another on the lower level if additional brain fuel is needed during the hunt. Please note any food or drink purchased at the cafes must be consumed where purchased and cannot be brought into the galleries.

What to Wear:
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. You will cover a lot of territory.

Time and Location

Time:
If you can, please arrive at the museum 10 minutes prior to your game time. This time will allow you and your team to get signed in, use the facilities and receive your scavenger hunt app game codes before the orientation begins. There may be a few minutes of finalizing team preparations before the official orientation begins.

Location:
This hunt takes place at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM).

Enter the Michael Lee-Chin Entrance on Bloor Street West, on the north side of the museum. Your Urban Capers hosts (wearing blue Urban Capers shirts) will greet you there and direct you to your orientation.

TTC and Parking:

TTC:
The closest subway stops are St. George Station on the Bloor Line and Museum Station on the University Line. TTC Closures are frequent; check here first:https://www.ttc.ca/service-advisories

There is a lot of parking on Bedford, just north of Bloor Street. Here's a map of ALL the lots in the area. Enter your date to ensure the info is correct: http://toronto.bestparking.com/destinations/royal-ontario-museum-parking

How It Works and FAQs

How Does the Game Work?
After your host-led orientation you must decipher the evidence: a digital clue book and suspect list, a map, and your wits! Track down art and artifacts throughout the museum’s galleries, solving tricky clues along the way. Secrets in the ROM collections reveal information about the victim, the primary suspects and their motives. The team with the most correct answers, including whodunnit, where, with what, and why - wins the coveted Golden Magnifying Glass!

Are there Bonus Points?
Yes! Your hosts will be watching your submissions live, commenting on them and awarding bonus points for funny, creative and witty text, photo and video challenges. Game on!

Who is on My Team?
Most players plan their teams ahead of time. We recommend 2-6 players per team. If you wish to play with your friends and family, you can purchase tickets online together or separately. When you arrive at the museum your host will sign you in and then ask who is on your team.

Who can play?
This scavenger hunt experience is designed for an adult audience, although we have had teenage sleuths join us in the past. The appropriateness of this event for any minor is best left to the discretion of their parent or guardian. For children under 12 years of age, you don't have to purchase a scavenger hunt ticket, and may just purchase museum admission so they can join you.

Do I really need to download Goosechase to my phone?
At least one person per team must have the Goosechase app downloaded onto their phone so your team can read the digital clues and submit text, photo and video answers. Your on-site hosts will help you with the app during orientation and they’ll be on the back-end awarding bonus points!

Is this hunt accessible?
We want this hunt to be accessible for all players. Teams chart their own route through the museum, and accessible routes are available. Wheelchairs are available at the coat check on a first-come, first-served basis. Large print map guides are available at the Admissions Desk. It is important to note that the game requires one player per team to read the clues through the mobile app. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out and we'll be happy to help.

Safety

As the hunt will take you through galleries featuring many priceless artifacts, we reserve the right to deny participation in the scavenger hunt or deny entry to the museum to anyone who, in our judgement, shows any sign of drug or alcohol intoxication. This is to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Save the celebrations for after the hunt!
