Nancy Main was a visionary and a true pioneer in arts and education in Canada. She was the founding principal of the Etobicoke School for the Arts and the first female Vice-Principal appointed in the Board of Education for the City of Etobicoke. Always devoted to the arts and academics, she made a tremendous impact on her students, creating opportunities and a welcoming environment for them to fully express their potential.
Nancy’s other passion in life was the Royal Ontario Museum, dating back to her childhood when she visited the Museum with her family and later during University. Her memories at the ROM built the foundation for her desire to teach, and to work with the ROM Saturday Morning Club, a program designed for children and families.
The strong bond and connection Nancy had with the ROM, ultimately led to her decision to set up the Nancy E. A. Main Fund in support of the ROM’s educational initiatives, a cause close to her heart. She recognized that using gifts of securities helped maximize tax advantages in her lifetime, and that a gift in her Will, directed to her fund, would be an investment in its future.
Through her planned gift, Nancy also became a member of Currelly Legacy Society (CLS). She brought her signature enthusiastic spirit to every CLS lecture and luncheon. Her last on-site visit to her beloved ROM was especially meaningful to her as she previewed Egyptian Mummies: Ancient Lives. New Discoveries at an CLS exclusive event this past Fall.
Both in her lifetime and through her estate gift supporting her Fund, Nancy ensured ROM continues to thrive for future generations. Today, we pay tribute to her memory by nurturing the creative spirit in young people and supporting artistic pursuits in our communities. Her intellect, energy and relentless optimism will forever be cherished and we are deeply grateful for her contributions.
