Join award-winning director, writer, and producer Amardeep Singh as he discusses the creation of the 24-episode documentary series “Allegory: A Tapestry of Guru Nanak’s Travels” (available at TheGuruNanak.com), and the Oneness In Diversity project he is currently leading. Singh and his team's work preserves and highlights the legacy of the founder of Sikhism through an extensive exploration filmed at over 150 multifaith locations spanning 9 countries, and offers a comprehensive look into Guru Nanak’s endeavors to inspire Oneness and a universal spiritual understanding. The talk will be followed by a conversation between the director and Santbir Singh, Associate Curator of Sikh Art & Culture at ROM, ending with an opportunity for audience questions.

Speakers

Amardeep Singh

Amardeep Singh, a resident of Singapore was educated at The Doon School (Dehradun, India), Manipal Institute of Technology (India) and pursued a Master's in Business Administration at the University of Chicago (USA). Before becoming an Independent Visual Ethnographic Researcher, Amardeep worked in the Financial Services sector for 25 years and was the Head of the Asia Pacific Region at American Express for Revenue Management. He has authored two books, Lost Heritage, The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan and The Quest Continues: Lost Heritage, The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan. He has also produced and directed documentary films, including the 24-part “Allegory: A Tapestry of Guru Nanak’s Travels”.

Santbir Singh

Santbir Singh is the Associate Curator of Sikh Art and Culture at ROM. He is currently completing his PhD in sociology at York University, where his focus lays in looking at Sikh governance models. Santbir is also a Research Associate with the Sikh Research Institute. Santbir has served as an educator and historian in the Sikh community for over two decades. His work focuses on Sikh inspirations for social activism and decolonization, as well as building a relationship with Sikh scripture through a critical analysis using different schools of thought and tradition.
