Inspiring Story

ROM is a place of legacies. Deep learnings of our planet’s history as told by Earth’s earliest fossils. The opulence and pomp of pharaohs and monarchs cementing their status across the ages. Artists carving bold new paths and researchers redefining scientific horizons. And the Museum supporters who make it all possible by embodying ROM’s belief that we live on in what we leave behind.

Adam Malcolm, 35, is one such supporter.

“I’ve been visiting ROM since I was a kid obsessed with dinosaurs,” shares Adam. “It was always a fun field trip, an exciting visit to the ‘big city.’ When I came back as an adult, there had been all these developments in our understanding of dinosaurs, a lot of which was a result of research going on right here at the Museum. And it was more than that. I discovered large-scale Chinese murals, rare minerals, 18th century harpsichords, and more. There is a new favourite thing for every season, every stage of my life. It’s a place of true learning and discovery.”

Now a wealth advisor and financial planner, Adam’s work focuses on helping people leave meaningful legacies of their own, especially in arts and culture.

“I’m a big proponent of what I call Strategic Generosity,” he says. “Figuring out what is important to you and how to make the biggest impact in your community today and tomorrow without detracting from your future and your loved ones. That’s why I chose to make a gift of life insurance.”

“At my age, life insurance is inexpensive but will yield a sizeable sum whenever it ends up getting paid out,” explains Adam. “And I'm not locked in forever. In fact, one of the major appeals of making a gift of life insurance is the flexibility. I can make adjustments as my life changes just by filling out a form with my insurance agent. I don’t have to call up a lawyer and redraft my will. It just makes the most sense for me in terms of flexibility, liquidity, and value.”

By making a gift of life insurance, Adam joins the Currelly Legacy Society, a wide-ranging group of donors with the common goal of ensuring the future of their Museum and creating a lasting impact for their communities. Members enjoy special benefits throughout their lifetimes, including invitations to exclusive events and opportunities for continued learning.

Ever the financial planner, Adam adds, “Every plan and every legacy is like a fingerprint. If it’s important to you, seek out an expert and have the deeper conversations about the right strategy for you and how to make your legacy a reality.”
