TORONTO, October 24, 2019 — Josh Basseches, Director & CEO of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), announced today the appointment of Dan Wright as Chief Financial Officer, effective November 4, 2019. Wright will report to the ROM’s Director & CEO and will serve on the company’s senior leadership team.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dan to the ROM,” says Josh Basseches. “This appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the Museum as we embark on our new strategic direction. An accomplished executive with extensive financial leadership experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, Dan will play a central role in enhancing the ROM’s financial strength and sustainability, while helping us realize our long-term goals and ambitions.”

As CFO, Wright will be responsible for the organization’s long- and short-term financial strategy and execution, as well as overseeing the full range of finance, accounting and procurement functions. The role will include oversight of the financial planning for the Museum’s multi-year strategic business plan, annual and capital budgets, and forecasting and strengthening the capital structure. In this position, Wright will serve as a key strategic business partner for issues related to finance, while contributing to the overall strategic direction of the institution.

“I am excited to be joining the ROM and working alongside the senior leadership team,” says Dan Wright. “In an increasingly complex world, the ROM stands out as a vitally important place for collective learning, contemplation and inspiration. I look forward to being part of the next phase of the ROM’s evolution and driving financial strategies that help the Museum deliver on its mission.”

Previously, Wright was CFO at the Toronto Transit Commission, North America’s third-largest public transit agency, and starting in 2013, he was CFO at ORNGE, Ontario’s provincially funded air ambulance and critical care land service. Wright has also held senior leadership positions at the Ontario Ministry of Finance in the Treasury Board Office, George Brown College and in the private sector.
