![Tile spandrels on the outside of the Hasht Behesht Palace, Isfahan (1669). Like the tiles we are studying these spandrels are also antithetical, one side of the arch being the inverse of the other. The arch displays the Lion and the Sun, an ancient Iranian symbol of royal power. These tiles were probably made by the same craftsmen as ours. February 5th, 2019, marks the beginning of the year of the pig 猪. The twelfth and last animal in the Chinese zodiac. People born in the year of the pig are said to be loving and kind. On the other hand, they can be stubborn and dawdle on tasks.
