From the ROM’s recent “Out of the Depths” Blue Whale Exhibition to the upcoming Canada’s Oceans: Towards 2020 Symposium, the ROM has had a big focus on our oceans this year. In fact, there have been many eyes on Canada’s oceans recently. The Society for Marine Mammalogy Conference was held in Halifax, NS, just two weeks ago, bringing together some of the greatest ocean thinkers from around the world. There, Dr. Asha de Vos gave a keynote speech describing her journey to understanding how blue whales act as our ocean’s gardeners. ROM Infrastructure Announcement
A government of Canada and Ontario press conference was held this morning at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) to announce major infrastructure improvements, which include $1.4M in funding for the repair to the ROM’s roof.
These renovations will enhance the visitor experience at the ROM, and increase the museum’s functional lifespan. The funds allotted to the ROM will be the first project in a joint plan to invest more than $220 million in initiatives to improve various projects across Ontario and Canada.
Fact & Falsehood in Ancient Roman and Greek objects
This coming weekend at the ROM (June 9-10) we will have Ancient Rome and Greece Weekend! There will be re-enactors demonstrating and displaying arms and armour, ROM experts and objects, an archery range with more re-enactors, and a myriad of activities including make a lucky “bulla”, creating your own mosaic masterpiece and learning the game of “knucklebones”.
